Hommage to Lewis Carroll

Bobkin’s Homage to Lewis Carroll creates a beautiful bridge between the work of both artists. In a recognizably alienating manner, elements that are logical are combined with things that surpass our understanding and undermine human logic. Fantasy creatures, dream images, and a yearning for the supernatural all serve the purpose of creating a world that confuses you in a familiar way. On one side, we see something resembling children’s toys entering the frame where strange characters are already waiting. The use of color also creates a sort of Mirror landscape here. A world-within-a-world, to bring one’s own imagination to life.

Alexander Bobkin is a painter based in Nijmegen. Bobkin’s work is characterized by his search for the hidden reality behind the visible image. A visionary guided by his Siberian roots, he constantly travels through the mind to translate these mystical experiences onto canvas.
