Polder Girl

The character in this painting appears out of place compared to the rest of the landscape. As if she suddenly found herself there. Displaced, like a resident estranged from her own background. The dark and grim color scheme contrasts sharply with the bright sun-yellow of our protagonist. Is she passing through? Searching for home? Timidly looking back, traversing through a polder that resembles somewhat of a swamp. As if she could disappear from sight at any moment, the clay and mud clinging to her soles on her way to the next destination.
