Yellow Journey

Yellow Journey is an homage to Carlos Castañeda and is part of the Journey series. A series of paintings in which various characters wander through different landscapes. Without any reference to a time or place, displaced still lifes emerge. It is up to the viewer to fill in where the journey is going. The same goes for Yellow Journey. A steppe serves as the stage for a landscape without foreground or background, without leading or supporting roles. We see a serene-looking character, riding on a bear-like creature, surrounded by silhouettes engaged in their own tango. A snapshot of a journey without end. Past and future are irrelevant to these actors, trapped in a landscape devoid of time or place, immortalized by the stroke of the brush because the journey takes place in the here and now.

Alexander Bobkin is a painter based in Nijmegen. Bobkin’s work is characterized by his search for the hidden reality behind the visible image. A visionary guided by his Siberian roots, he constantly travels through the mind to translate these mystical experiences onto canvas.
